I've actually had this book since 2019 (it was a first communion gift) and I cannot express how good it is. I can't count how many times I have read it. I absolutely LOVE the cover. The cover art is the Communion of St Teresa by Juan Martín Cabezalero. It depicts St Teresa receiving communion from Peter of Alcántara. She had a vision where St Francis of Assisi assisted as deacon and St Anthony of Padua as subdeacon. More info on it here!
Thinking back to my first Holy Communion reminds me how excited I was to receive Jesus for the first time. To be honest, I don't have that same fervor as I did six years ago. As the years go on, we should be getting for grace and joy from this holy sacrament! Peter Julian Eymard writes beautifully on why and how we should allow this holy gift to nourish our interior life. This book has changed how I approach the holy table and I pray my love and reverence will always increase.
O happy moment of Communion, which makes us forget our exile and its miseries! O sweet repose of the soul on the very heart of Jesus.
Here's the start of chapter 13 (my personal favorite)
